MASSIVE Dust Storm Rolls Through Arizona
Massive Haboob Hits Phoenix, New Roosevelt Row Restaurants, and Phoenix Market Down Year Over Year
Arizona is never short of excitement, whether it’s dramatic weather, a booming restaurant scene, or real estate market shifts that captures attention:
-
A massive haboob dust storm that swept across the Valley, making national news.
-
Eight new restaurants, cafes, and bars opening in Roosevelt Row.
-
The Cromford Report market update, showing Phoenix underperforming compared to national housing trends.
Let’s dive into each one.
1. Massive Haboob Slams Arizona

If you were anywhere near the Phoenix metro area this week, you probably saw (or breathed in) the dust wall that rolled through the Valley. Known locally as a haboob, this storm was one of the biggest Arizona has seen in years.
Based on personal experience that while sitting on his porch, expecting a relaxing evening with some rain and music. Instead, I filmed a time-lapse of the sky turning brown before being swarmed with dirt and forced indoors.
The storm was so significant that The New York Times picked up footage, showing how the dust engulfed neighborhoods, highways, and even Sky Harbor International Airport. Flights headed to Phoenix were rerouted to Tucson and Las Vegas, leaving travelers stunned as they landed in the wrong city.
Imagine flying from Atlanta to Phoenix, only to end up in Vegas. Not the arrival you planned.
This was a strong reminder of how Arizona’s monsoon season can be unpredictable. While the last five years have been fairly quiet, 2025 finally delivered a powerful storm that residents will remember.
2. Roosevelt Row Welcomes 8 New Restaurants & Cafes
If there’s one thing that keeps Downtown Phoenix buzzing, it’s the ever changing lineup of restaurants and nightlife on Roosevelt Row. This week, eight new spots were announced, giving foodies and weekend bar hoppers plenty to be excited about.
Highlights include:
-
Culinary Gangster: From food truck to full restaurant, bringing burgers, crinkle-cut fries, and fan favorites from chef Ricky Rishio’s career.

-
Dolce Italia by Mech: A family owned café inspired by European coffee culture, serving coffee, pastries, and all-day eats.

-
Proof Bread: Famous for pastries and Roman style pizza slices, now with a Roosevelt Row location to join its Mesa, North Phoenix, and Litchfield Park shops.

-
Turquoise Wine Bar: A new wine bar franchise location on 5th and Roosevelt, perfect for casual nights out.

These additions join Roosevelt Row’s already popular scene spots like Sazerac, Palma, Ghost Donkey, and Wilderness, making downtown nightlife even stronger.
3. Cromford Report Market Update: Phoenix Lags Behind
No Arizona Daily Update would be complete without a look at the housing market. Cole shared insights from the Cromford Report and the S&P Case Shiller Home Price Index.
Here are the takeaways:
-
Phoenix dropped from 16th to 19th place nationally in home price performance.
-
The national average home price rose 0.05%, while Phoenix remained weaker than average.
-
Year-over-year, Phoenix home prices are down 0.6%. Not great, but not as bad as San Francisco or Dallas, which saw steeper losses.
-
Markets like New York, Chicago, and Cleveland are seeing 7%+ growth, showing stronger demand outside the West and South.
Cole explained that Phoenix tends to feel the real estate cycle first, both the highs and the lows. With open door buyers, iBuyers, and institutional investors historically targeting Phoenix, volatility isn’t surprising.
The silver lining? The Cromford index rose slightly to 78.3, showing signs of recovery. Supply and demand indicators are slowly shifting in favor of sellers. Cole predicts that by this time next year, Phoenix could be back in a neutral or stronger market position.
For buyers, creative opportunities still exist, whether through builder incentives, seller financing, or assumable mortgages. For sellers, patience and the right strategy will be key.
